The Secular Hypocrisy : outlookindia.com
It is Modi's rejection of the hypocrisy of the self-styled secularists which makes him stand apart as a Hindu leader with a difference in the eyes of his admirers, enabling them to say, "Say You Are A Hindu, Hold Your Head High".

IndianExpress.com :: The right to test again

IndianExpress.com :: The right to test again
Contrary to assertions of the opponents of the 123 Agreement, it strengthens India’s position on testing compared to the situations in 1974 and 1998. At that time when tests were conducted, the US imposed sanctions. Article 14 of the 123 Agreement provides that there will have to be one year’s notice before termination of the agreement and there should be consultations. Article 14(2) says “They further agree to take into account whether the circumstances that may lead to termination or cessation resulted from a party’s serious concern about a changed security environment or as a response to a similar action by other states which could impact national security.”

Further, article 13(1) stipulates “The parties recognise that such consultations are between two states with advanced nuclear technology which have agreed to assume the same responsibilities and practices and acquire the same benefits and advantages as other leading countries with advanced nuclear technology”.

In these two clauses Indian diplomats have secured the country’s right to test if the security environment deteriorates and if the US or any other nuclear weapon power were to test. In other words, the 123 Agreement strengthens India’s hands immeasurably in terms of the right to test in case of some other power testing or serious deterioration in security environment. It would appear that articles 13 and 14 of the agreement have not been carefully studied by those who oppose it.

Follow the Fundamentals - New York Times

Follow the Fundamentals - New York Times

In the World Economic Forum survey, the U.S. comes in just ahead of Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Germany (China is 34th). The U.S. gets poor marks for macroeconomic stability (the long-term federal debt), for its tax structure and for the low savings rate. But it leads the world in a range of categories: higher education and training, labor market flexibility, the ability to attract global talent, the availability of venture capital, the quality of corporate management and the capacity to innovate.

William W. Lewis of McKinsey surveyed global competitive in dozens of business sectors a few years ago, and concluded, “The United States is the productivity leader in virtually every industry.”

Second, America’s fundamental economic strength is rooted in the most stable of assets — its values. The U.S. is still an astonishing assimilation machine. It has successfully absorbed more than 20 million legal immigrants over the past quarter-century, an extraordinary influx of human capital. Americans are remarkably fertile. Birthrates are relatively high, meaning that in 2050, the average American will be under 40, while the average European, Chinese and Japanese will be more than a decade older.

IndianExpress.com :: Karat’s boomerang

IndianExpress.com :: Karat’s boomerang

As part of a consistent effort over the last decade to improve relations with China, India has been willing to forget and forgive Beijing’s unpardonable transfer of nuclear weapon designs and missile production technologies to Pakistan.

Thanks to Karat’s adventurism, India’s long accumulated nuclear grievances against China are surging back to the surface. As mainstream India concludes China is out to block India’s impending nuclear liberation, it is Beijing that will incur the political costs.

With friends like Karat, China does not need enemies in India. If the Chinese establishment does its India sums again, it would quickly distance itself from the CPM and support the resumption of international nuclear cooperation with New Delhi. If it doesn’t, Beijing will risk stoking the fury of Indian nationalism and pushing New Delhi closer to Washington and Tokyo......................................

American officials, citing the number of terror plots in Britain involving Britons with ties to Pakistan, expressed concern over the visa loophole. In recent months, the homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff, has opened talks with the government here on how to curb the access of British citizens of Pakistani origin to the United States.

Gujarat: Looking Back : outlookindia.com

Gujarat: Looking Back : outlookindia.com
It is five years since the brutal massacre of a group of Hindu pilgrims by some members of the Muslim community in the Godhra railway station in Gujarat and the violent Hindu-Muslim riots that followed. There has so far been no objective account of the incidents of 2002 in Gujarat. An unfortunate attempt has been made by the so-called secular elite of the country to create doubts in the minds of the people about the facts relating to the carnage at Godhra. The use of force by the Administration to bring the resulting law and order situation under control has also come in for criticism from this elite. Among the criticisms made by them are that the force used was excessive and disproportionate; that it was mainly directed against the Muslim community; that there were many atrocities committed against the Muslims; that it was politically orchestrated etc.

IndianExpress.com :: Spaced out?

IndianExpress.com :: Spaced out?
In these columns we have consistently argued for a comprehensive and cooperative relationship with Beijing. But that does not mean we turn a blind eye to China’s expanding military might. If India believes in a multipolar Asia, it needs to urgently match Chinese space capabilities. If we are honest to ourselves, we will see that the DAE and the DRDO, for all their tall talk of self-reliance, have let us down badly. On high-powered lasers, for example, their efforts have been pathetic to say the least. India needs partners in space. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the US leads the list of such partners, followed by Israel, Russia and Japan.

New IIT proposed in Bihar

The Centre plans to one of three proposed IITs to be opened in the 11th Plan period in Bihar........read on

My OPINION:
I think that India as a nation should have a 10-15 year program to steadfastly increase investment in education. We should plan to have a IIT in everystate by say year 2020. This would give IIT's suffice time and resources to roll out 1-2 IIT's every year, hire good faculty, create relevant facilities. These IIT's should be new ones and not upgraded colleges, ideally built in most rural areas. This will help in creation of economic opportunities in those areas.
similar schemes should be adopted for AIIM'S and IIM's.
However we should not restrict this to just these institutes, we need to create newer models of education to enhance learning opportunities all the way to the lowest economically deprived people or our country. I believe that in long run IT and communications will help us achieve these goals.
