Op-Ed Columnist - The Tea Kettle Movement - NYTimes.com
Democratic Pollster Stan Greenberg told me that when he does focus groups today this is what he hears: “People think the country is in trouble and that countries like China have a strategy for success and we don’t. They will follow someone who convinces them that they have a plan to make America great again. That is what they want to hear. It cuts across Republicans and Democrats.”
To me, that is a plan that starts by asking: what is America’s core competency and strategic advantage, and how do we nurture it? Answer: It is our ability to attract, develop and unleash creative talent. That means men and women who invent, build and sell more goods and services that make people’s lives more productive, healthy, comfortable, secure and entertained than any other country.

Old India has failed New India, again - Hindustan Times
The people who are most angered and horrified by the CWG mess are those who believe that we are creating a new India: one that can do things to global standards, whose competence and intelligence are highly regarded all over the world, an India where people work hard, where there are high levels of accountability and where commitments are treated as sacred.
When Indians talk about ourselves these days, it is this new India we allude to. It is the new India that is an emerging superpower. It is the new India that is the rival of a resurgent China. It is the new India that the world is rushing to befriend and to invest in.
But just as we begin to believe the hype about the new India, the old India comes back and bites us in the arse.
Is it any wonder that we are all so angry? As hard as we try to build a new India, this fiasco reminds us that old India still has the power to humiliate and embarrass us.

"I don’t idealize China’s system of government. I don’t want to live in an authoritarian system. But I do feel compelled to look at China in an objective way and acknowledge the successes of this system.

Greenspan: Fiscal Stimulus Worked Far Less Than Expected - Real Time Economics - WSJ
Greenspan, while worried about the outlook and what is happening with the housing market, said when it comes to a double-dip recession, “the probability of that is going down.” Given all the ground the economy has lost, “the tinder for a double-dip is not readily available,” although he added if housing goes down “all bets are off.”
Greenspan said that the U.S. needs to do something now to deal with budget deficits and it must do something very soon. He explained his anxiety is so high that “I’m coming out in the first time in my memory” in support of higher taxes in addition to reduced spending, including allowing the so-called Bush tax cuts to expire.
“Our choice is not between good and bad; it’s between terrible and worse,” Greenspan said. The nation has “a level of commitment … which I don’t think we can psychically meet,” absent huge changes in how the government finances itself.

Op-Ed Columnist - China, Japan, America and the Renminbi - NYTimes.com
I have been talking about this for so long. American Lawmakers need to have some courage to take on China's Economic Policies. In the long run it will be good for both U.S.A and China.
Indian growth model wins praise over Chinese rival
Advance, not retreat - Hindustan Times
"Modern India needs to take forward our traditions of syncretic evolution of the Indian civilisation. Seeking to settle scores of history, real or perceived, must not be allowed to fritter away the country’s energies in fratricidal conflicts. These energies must be galvanised to realise our true potential based on the foundations of a secular democratic republic. The strength of ‘We, the people’ lies in the secular unity that marshals all our energies in realising our full potential for building a better India.

Geithner Urges Action on Economy - WSJ.com
"He said the U.S. can no longer rely on consumer spending, which has long powered the economy, to be the growth engine that leads the recovery this time around and said Washington needed to plant the seeds for business investment and exports.
'We can't go back to a situation where we're depending on a near short-term boost in consumption to carry us forward,' he said.
Last week, Mr. Obama rolled out a package of proposals aimed at spurring business investment and job creation, including making a research tax credit permanent, allowing companies to temporarily expense 100% of capital investments and funding $50 billion in new infrastructure projects. The administration says the proposals would be paid for by ending other corporate tax breaks and closing loopholes.
